Fifa has announced the appointment of Ghana Football Association’s technical director Francis Oti Akenteng and Dr. Kofi Amoah as liaison officers to mediate between them and Caf as they seek to ensure the continuous running of football in the country.
All football related activities in Ghana have been suspended following a documentary that exposed malpractices involving some GFA members and referees.
A four-man government delegation met with Fifa in Switzerland last week to seek guidelines for the way forward.
“Fifa and Caf continue to monitor and assess relevant development in relation to the current situation of the Ghana Football Association (GFA),” a statement from Fifa, signed by general secretary Fatma Samoura read.
“Fifa understands that various court proceedings have begun in Ghana aiming to investigate the circumstances reported in relation to the GFA and other GFA officials.

“In light of this, with the primary objective of both ensuring the continuous running of football and preventing any jeopardising of Fifa/Caf’s ongoing review of the situation of the GFA, please take note that as coordinated and agreed with Caf, a two-person team has been appointed to ensure liaison with Fifa and Caf on international competition issues (eg. the participation of Ghanaian team in the Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup France 2018).
“The liaison team will be composed of yourself (Oti Akenteng) and Dr. Login Amoah as head of the team.
“The liaison team will remain in place until such time as a decision is reached on Fifa/Caf’s ongoing review process related to the situation of the GFA. We thank you very much of taking note of the above,” the statement added.
The newly formed team will meet in Accra next week to begin their work with support from the ministry of youth and sports.
