Ghanaian actress, model and film producer Yvonne Nelson, has revealed that she is yet to date any man for financial benefits.
The 32-year-old entrepreneur has been involved with several men in the last decade, top most of them includes Derek Boateng, Jon German, Ice Prince and Davido whom according to many, Davido was the reason why Iyanya left Yvonne Nelson in 2012 although both parties cited distance, time, and cheating as several of the reasons their 7-8 months relationship came to an abrupt end.
For facts, Yvonne Nelson has proven to be a hard-working woman in the film industry. With several movies in her basement, she has given spotlights to some of the budding screen talents of current times and proven beyond doubt that, given birth out-of-wedlock isn’t a crime either.
Speaking in an interview with her close friends Sammy Forson on Joy Fm’s “Personality Profile” last Thursday, Ms Nelson revealed that dating a man for financial gains will reduce the respect he has for the woman.
Her statement is true, considering the latest rumour about rising YOLO star Fella Makafui’s boyfriend who has been alleged to have closed her Wine Shop because she’s seeing another man… etc.
Yvonne explained further that if it were for riches, there were a lot of men ready to tie her down but unfortunately, money has always been out of the equation for her.
“If it were a wealthy or richer man, it’s easy for some of us but it’s not about that. Why do I have to work hard? I would work hard and look for a man with money. I don’t need a man to feed me and pay my bills every day…” she said.
She adds that, she has never in her lifetime dated a man due to his wealth. Her new fond-happiness with photographer-boyfriend Jamie has been nothing but pure love every day.
“With Jamie, it’s been, pure love. Don’t date people because of money. He might not even respect you and you can’t question them. They pay your bills and you shut up…” she said.
Yvonne Nelson on Meeting President Akufo-Addo
Yvonne Nelson has disclosed that so many attempts by her to meet President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have proved futile because of people around him.
According to her, some faceless people are making it difficult to book an appointment with the president.
“I am a Ghanaian. I love the NDC and NPP. I have been trying to meet the president and I guess the people around him are making it difficult. Yeah I wanted to address him but I guess when the time is right I will meet him,” she said.
Yvonne Nelson believes that there are a lot of issues that she needs to discuss with President Akufo-Addo that will give the president an insight with ways tackle and to give the movie industry a lease of life.
“I am not too happy but at the right time, I will address it. I mean the movie industry. Also tourism, government, stuff about Ghana that I need to address. Maybe now they don’t take us seriously but they would…,” she said.
Ms. Nelson is certain most governments don’t believe entertainers have the power to turn the fortunes of Ghana around.
“We want to promote the tourism sector but the road networks are bad. I was on my way to Kakum National Park and I nearly returned so why would a tourist go through that. There are things that need to be addressed so when the time is right some of us will come up.”
“We are entertainers, they don’t believe us but when the time comes they will know…” she wrapped.
Government to help the Movie Industry
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has hinted it will be releasing funds to support the Ghana Movie Industry which is not vibrant as it used to be.
A member of the organizers for the Ghana Movie Week, Michael Ola, disclosed and commended government for the initiative.
“The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Arts wants to give some kind of funding to filmmakers to help them in their work,” he said, while whilst giving an overview of the plans to mark the celebration.
The minister of Tourism, Catherine Afeku will soon educate participants on plans the ministry is putting in place to support the film industry while the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Bafuor, is to take them through how workers of the industry can benefit from pension plans, insurance and better salary structure.
