Adesa Festival To Celebrate Oral Arts On August 24
Adesa Festival, the first-ever annual event to be organised in Ghana by Philjoe Multimedia & Play House.kom, will see a celebration of Ghanaian oral arts on Friday, August 24.
The festival will honour storytelling legends such Grace Omaboe, popularly known in showbiz circles as Maame Dokono, and Ama Boabeng, a pioneer of the concert party shows.
The event is to rekindle the good old flame of the natural and indigenous Ghanaian theatre, which appears to be running into extinction, with the birth of the new age and a fete of oral arts.
The theme for this year’s edition is ‘The Oral Arts Revolution, The Role of Everyone’ with the slogan ‘Pimpinaaa…Nanaaaaa!’
The maiden edition, will feature conversations, workshops and interviews with legends and teachers of Ghanaian folk and spoken arts, including Prof. Kofi Anyidoho, Grace Omaboe, Prof. Lade Wosornu, Dr. Mawuli Adjei and young artistes as Chief Moomen, Oswald Okaitei, Nana Yaa Yeboaa, Nana Asaase, Nii Commey, Theophilus Nii Adjei Badger, as well as oral arts icons in Ghana — the legendary Amandzeba and Abeiku Santana.
Interesting segment will be a tribute moment for the creative legends/icons—Prof. Atukwei Okai, Dr. Kobena Eyi Acquah, Kojo Laing, Jewel Ackah, C.K. Mann, Paapa Yankson and Nana Turkson, who passed away this year.
The festival, which will take place at the James Town Café, is intended to engage old and young artistes who are in the businesses of oral arts such as storytelling, poetry, music, comedy, video screening and other spoken arts in conversations, workshops, roundtable discussions, exhibition and performances.
