Following the dismissal of the Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Samuel Sarpong, the staff at the head office of the institution held a thanksgiving prayer service. PURC boss sacked! Staff hold massive jubilation
According to them, the exit of their boss was a ‘welcoming’ development, as they believe the commission will be better off without him.
In a report by Citifmonline, the staff on Friday morning were in high spirits, as the workers believed the decision by the president was the best way forward. “This is good news to all of us. We know that it is what God can do this for us. We as a Commission, as staff, we happy that there is a change today, and we know that this will go a long way to bring sanity back to the office and make PURC work again,” one worker stated. President Akufo-Addo ordered the dismissal of the PURC boss on Thursday.
He was ordered to hand over all necessary documentation and status of the commission as at the time of his exit by the close of business on Friday. Mr. Sarpong who was appointed in 2013 under the erstwhile Mahama administration, has over the last year has been pointed at, regarding various corruption claims surrounding the commission.
He has been replaced with Mami Dufie Ofori, whom some staff has described as the best candidate to replace him.
