The Ashanti Regional Director for the National Sports Authority Joshua Mensah has explained the reason why Algerian club El Setif were prevented from training at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday ahead of their CAF Champions League first round match against Aduana Stars on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.
According to the Regional Director, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium is not used for training and there was no communication from Aduana Stars to allow El Setif to train on the pitch.
Speaking to Kumasi based Oyerepa FM on the issue he said, “The Baba Yara Sports Stadium is not for training purposes and the match won’t be played here so I don’t see why we should allow the Algerians to train here.
“They also failed to adhere to protocol because I inquired from Aduana and no such arrangements had been done”. he added.
The general manager of ES Setif, Djihad Boulahdjile expressed his disappointment at authorities in charge of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, after they turned down a request by the Algerians to train at the stadium.
“I am very surprised at those responsible for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium because they didn’t allow us to train there.
I thought we are friends and Africans who show solidarity. Should any club come to Algeria and want to use ES Setif’s facilities, we will gladly make it available and I wanted to pay for it but they didn’t allow”
