- – This season of Game of Thrones has been a nightmare for the producers and for the cable channel HBO as well as their partner stations across the world who have latched on to this monster of a television series to sell to advertisers.
Hackers had no mercy on the content that seems like the most sought after television series in the history of television series. While it was still in production, loyal viewers were always looking forward to when it would come back and when it did many were happy.
The hackers were also happy as they hacked the systems of the broadcaster and placed them on the internet for people to download. Game of Thrones is perhaps the most downloaded television series and several episodes of season 7 may have beaten its own record of downloads.
Viewers had the content days before it would air on HBO every Sunday for the past seven weeks. Back home, the only platform that had the rights to show it was DStv which used its premium channel 101 to show it on Mondays at 9:30pm.
The coverage by DStv this season was better than before. It showed when it was planned to and subscribers did not have to wait for it to be on Catch Up alone before they watched it, something that didn’t help much in the previous season. What many viewers frowned upon was the deletion of sex scenes from the episodes. Save the last episode where Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen made love.
Content wise, this season’s was top notch with epic battles from the fourth episode upwards. The producers “killed” some notable characters, especially holding it to the very last episode to give Arya Stark the job of killing the most notorious schemer in the series of schemers, Lord Baelish.
Some say it didn’t end well, I think it did with the breaking of the wall that protected the north of Westeros from the army of the undead or White Walkers.
This was an awesome season with a big statement at the end that winter had finally come! From what we hear, the next season won’t be ready till 2019 and we have the patience to wait.
