Kumasi Asante Kotoko lost 6-7 on penalties to CARA Club of Congo in Brazzaville on Wednesday leading to their elimination.
The Porcupine Warriors fought gallantly, losing by a lone goal in regulation time to leave the tie even at 1-1 over the two-legs.
Kotoko also won the first leg by a lone goal in Kumasi a fortnight ago, squandering 3 penalty kicks in the process.
But they went to Congo full of confidence, and really put up a fight but CARA got a goal in the 30th minute to ensure the tie goes into penalty kicks.
In the nervy marathon penalty shoot-outs, Kotoko’s Obed Owusu, Kwame Boahene, Amos Frimpong and Jackson Owusu missed their kicks.
Kotoko missed four (4) of their ten (10) spot-kicks while CARA Club missed three (3) of theirs.
Kotoko will point to the maltreatment they received at the hands of CARA club prior to the game as a factor in their defeat.
News broke yesterday that supporters of CARA club invaded the pitch and prevented Kotoko from training and it had to take the intervention of Ghana’s ambassador to Congo, Atta Boafo to prevent the situation from degenerating.
Kotoko will now have to focus on the Ghana Premier League campaign which is set to start next month.
