The Appointments Committee of Parliament has approved the President’s nominee for the position of a Special Prosecutor, Martin ABK Amidu.
Members from both sides on the committee voted for approval except the MP for Tamale North, Suhuyini Alhassan Sayibu who voted against the nominee.
The Committee’s report recommends among other things that “given Mr. Martin Alamisi Burns Kaiser’s high standard of competence, forthrightness in answering questions, independent-mindedness, selflessness, solid principles and an in-depth appreciation of the task ahead backed by his onerous experience, knowledge of the law and his promise to be above political colourisation, the Nominee qualifies to serve as the Special Prosecutor”.
It is not your clear why the Tamale North MP voted against the nominee but it is believed that the MP has issues with the nominee’s attitude towards his party, the National Democratic Congress who have been under the nominee’s vigilant eyes.
The committee’s report is, however, yet to go before plenary for a debate.
