Airbnb has teamed up with the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) to assist African-Americans to travel to Ghana. The decision follows Ghana’s declaration of the year 2019 as the Year of Return, 400 years after Africans were transported via the Atlantic ocean to America and Europe.
Airbnb will therefore assist with transportation with specific focus on movements from Jamestown, in Virginia, United States of America (USA) to Jamestown in Accra, Ghana.
Information available also indicates that the NAACP has hosted a number of events in the USA to commemorate the Year of Return. Per a report by essence.com, a bus trip was organized from Washington DC to Jamestown, Virginia for a prayer vigil and a candle lighting ceremony.
This was intended to honour the memory of those who were moved from Africa 400 years ago.
