Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Agyapong has jabbed pastors for drawing back the fortunes of the country by indoctrinating the mindset of the citizenry that the only antidote to their problems is prayer and attending church services.
According to him, God gave everyone a brain to think and protect oneself as well as work to feed himself or herself but many have ignored these gifts and banked their hopes on prayer which is why the country is not developing.
“How can we develop when we spend most of the time in churches praying? God gave you the brain to think, protect yourself and work to feed yourself but every day you are in the church praying in tongues, how can you develop with such a mentality”, he quizzed.
This is not the first time the New Patriotic Party (NPP) firebrand has come after religious leaders for leading their congregation astray, explaining that it is one of the reasons he does not believe in them.
Mr Agyapong last year revealed that he does not believe in prophecies because about 90% of prophets are liars and capitalize on the gullibility of their victims to make a living.
Nonetheless, he says the founder and leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah has proven otherwise by making accurate prophecies in the last 3 years.
“When you talk about it, they say you are blaspheming but it is the truth. When you see the lifestyle of most men of God, their lifestyles; lavish lifestyles, and you see their followers and how deprived they are…I don’t believe in prophecies but I believe in Rev. Owusu Bempah, for 3 years now and he has surprised me with his predictions”, he said.
We are too vulnerable, the indoctrination, a lot of pastors, prophets are capitalizing on our ignorance of the Bible to deceive us”.
His comments were in response to a prophecy by the Leader and founder of the Elected Prayer Ministry, Prophetess Rebecca Aboagye for him to accept the call of God and immediately resign as Member of Parliament (MP) and rather join members of the clergy.
