Kumkum Bagya star Pragya dies at 54

The popular Kumkum Bagya star known to many simply as Pragya has died at age 54 in Dubai during a trip to attend an extended family members wedding.

Born Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan professionally known as Sridevi was an Indian actress and film producer who starred in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films.

Superstar Indian actress, Sridevi Kapoor, a star of the popular Indian drama series, Kumkum Bagya, and known to Ghanaians by the name she carries in the series, Pragya was reported dead as a result of cardiac arrest while in Dubai.

She was reportedly in the Arab Emirates in order to attend an extended family wedding, the actress’s brother-in-law confirmed to the Indian Express online.

Prominent Indian celebrities and politicians have since reacted to the news by sharing messages of condolences, while some friends and close colleagues have expressed shock and surprise.

“Saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi. She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career included diverse roles and memorable performances,” read the Indian Prime Minister’s tweet.

“I have no words. Condolences to everyone who loved #Sridevi . A dark day . RIP.” Read a tweet from superstar actress, Priyanka Chopra.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Police In Dubai have closed the case into the Bollywood actress’ death after handing over her body to relatives.
