Shatta Wale Warns Black Sherif; Threatens To “End His Career”

Shatta Wale Warns Black SherifGhanaian reggae and dancehall heavyweight Shatta Wale has issued a stern warning to rising artist Black Sherif, following what he perceived as disrespectful behavior on social media. During a Twitter Spaces session on Monday, November 4, 2024, Shatta Wale addressed a recent Snapchat post by Black Sherif, in which the young artist shared a photo of Shatta Wale and commented on his style.

Known for hits like Kilos Milos and Kweku The Traveller, Black Sherif quickly drew the veteran artist’s ire, as Shatta Wale emphasized the importance of respect in the industry. He warned Black Sherif that any further disrespect could lead to serious consequences for his career.

In the live session, Shatta Wale expressed his disappointment, suggesting that Black Sherif should be cautious when addressing him publicly. He drew parallels to his past issues with other prominent Ghanaian artists, saying, “Black Sherif, you are new in the music industry. If you have heard them saying I have said something about you, you won’t go and watch the podcast and know the good things I said about you. This is the same thing Sarkodie did; now people think he is my enemy.”

The incident that set off the exchange dates back to October 31, 2024, when Shatta Wale, during an appearance on the Bant, Rants, and Confessions podcast hosted by Efia Odo, casually critiqued Black Sherif’s dressing style, suggesting that he could improve his public image. Black Sherif, seemingly unfazed, responded on Snapchat by posting a picture of Shatta Wale with the caption, “I plaster everywhere,” which many took as a subtle clap-back.

The online response has been divided, with some fans siding with Shatta Wale, agreeing that the industry should respect its veterans. Others, however, see his comments as overly harsh, suggesting a more supportive approach for Black Sherif’s career. Shatta Wale, who has long been known for his no-nonsense approach to rivalries in the Ghanaian music scene, seems determined to ensure that young stars like Black Sherif understand the rules of engagement.

The music industry continues to buzz with opinions on the matter as Shatta Wale’s message makes its rounds on social media, adding to the long history of public feuds in Ghanaian music.
