- They’re both world-renowned artists with huge acclaim, fanbases, and musical success – but that still doesn’t stop some people from confusing John Legend with Pharrell Williams.
That’s according to Legend anyway, who revealed the embarrassing mix-up during a new episode of Carpool Karaoke, which now runs as its own 30-minute show on Apple Music.
The new episode of the singalong car series – which has moved onto the streaming platform following its huge success in the US on James Corden’s The Late Late Show – features Legend singing in the car with Corden, Alicia Keys and Empire actress Taraji P. Henson.
After a brief rendition of a verse of Pharrell’s perennial 2013 earworm Happy, Legend declared: ‘White women think I’m Pharrell sometimes!’ – a comment which greatly amused his car companions, with Legend also donning Pharrell’s now-famous ‘Grammy hat’.
Earlier in the episode Legend and Keys were challenged by Corden to sing unusual song lyrics, which included Legend singing the phrase: ‘You’re too hard, it’s not appropriate right now.’
The full Carpool Karaoke episode with Legend, Keys, Corden and Henson is available to watch on Apple Music now. Another new episode, featuring comedian Billy Eichner and Metallica, is also streaming on the platform.
