Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A Plus, has secured a historic victory in the 2024 general elections, winning the Gomoa Central Parliamentary seat in Ghana’s Central Region. A Plus, a musician-turned-politician, defeated the New Patriotic Party’s incumbent, Naana Eyiah Quansah, by a margin of over 2,000 votes. A Plus received 14,277 votes, while Quansah garnered 11,637 votes. Other parliamentary candidates in the race collected a combined total of 10,112 votes.
Shortly after the polls closed, A Plus took to the streets to celebrate his anticipated win, despite awaiting official results. As the vote counting and collation process continues at polling stations and collation centers across the country, both major political parties—National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—have urged their supporters to stay calm and allow the Electoral Commission (EC) to finalize the process.
The 2024 elections saw 13 presidential candidates and 807 parliamentary candidates contesting across Ghana, making it a highly competitive and closely watched election.
