The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has firmly denied allegations linking it to a viral video featuring a white truck purportedly transporting a voter register to Ahafo Ano 1 and 2.
In a statement released on Wednesday, December 4, the EC clarified that the document seen in the video is not an official voters’ register. The Commission explained that its official registers are always presented in black and white, not in color as depicted in the circulating footage.
EC’s Response to the Claims
“The Voters’ Register shown in the video is not that of the EC,” the statement asserted. “Our registers are in black and white, and the truck seen in the video does not belong to the Commission.”
The EC further elaborated that political parties are typically provided with a final version of the voter register, which they print independently for their agents. The public was urged to dismiss the video as a deliberate attempt to undermine trust in the EC’s operations.
Call for Police Investigation
To address the matter thoroughly, the Commission has requested police intervention, citing the visible registration number on the truck as a critical lead for investigations.
