Talented musician Kidi, has explained how he landed a collaboration with Nigerian musicians Davido and Mayorkun on the remix of his hit single ‘Odo’.
Over the weekend, Davido posted a video of himself singing along to a remix version of Kidi’s ‘Odo’ with the caption; “If money fall on you like that eeeyo!! @kidimusic @mayorkun”.
His post was re-posted by the MTN hitmaker season four winner with the caption; “Issamajor linkup…Kidi X @mayorkun X @davidooficial…Odo remix loading #Lezzgo”.
Speaking in an interview with Hitz FM’s Noella Kharyne Yalley, Kidi, born Dennis Nana Dwamena, revealed that Davido’s record label signee, Mayorkun facilitated the deal.
He narrated that, “It all started when Mayorkun came to Ghana, he was in Accra doing a media tour and once you are in Ghana, you’ll definitely hear Ghanaian music around. So I think he was watching 4Syte TV and saw my music video and was like, which song is this.
“Because his boss Davido has a song which talks about him having 30 billion in his account, and he comes to Ghana and hears a song about someone saying he doesn’t have 30 billion. So obviously, that caught his attention and he kept playing my song on his snapchat and I think Davido heard it too and also kept asking which song was that,” he added.
He added: “So he (Mayorkun) reached out to my people and we arranged for him to come to the studio and we did it. At the time, we didn’t know Davido would want to be a part of it, so it was just going to be me and Mayorkun.
The next day, I was in bed when I had a call and was told that it looked like Davido was impressed with the song and would want to jump on it. So the night before Mayorkun flew back to Nigeria, I went to meet up with him and he took the vocals and the beat back to Nigeria.
The next day he texted me and told me Davido was recording his verse and a few minutes later, he was like ‘you know what, check your mail, I just sent you something.'”
When asked about how he felt about the collaboration, he said;
“As an artiste, one of the things we look forward to is our work being appreciated. There’s no feeling greater than working on something artistic, and then it comes out and people accept it.”
“So first of all, I was just grateful to God that even Ghanaians accepted the music and I was even more grateful that it was able to cross boarders into Nigeria. And to have Mayorkun; one of the biggest up comers in Nigeria and Davido himself; one of the biggest artistes in Africa jump on it, I’m so happy,” the Lynxx Entertainment signee concluded.
He assured that the song will be released soon adding that he had plans of shooting a video for it as well.
