South Africa’s U-17 women’s team has set a record for an international match in African football with a staggering 28-0 win over Seychelles in their opening game at the Cosafa Championship in Mauritius on Saturday.
The Under-17 national women side set a big record at the inaugural Cosafa U17 tournament after beating Seychelles in a Group B match.
This victory follows after the country’s senior women’s walloped Comoros to a 17-0 record scoreline at the COSAFA Women’s Championship in Port Elizabeth just two months ago.
South Africa went to the break leading 15-0 and continued their dominance in the second period with five players netting hat-tricks in the match.
Eleven (11) different players scored for South Africa’s U-17s with two of them grabbing double hat-tricks.
Oyisa Marhazi and Tiffany Kortjie scored double hat-tricks, while Nabeelah Galant, Jessica Wade and Sonika Mzingeli had three goals each.
Seychelles were playing their inaugural game at under-17 level and entering the southern African championship for the first time.
Their next game is against Botswana on 23 September.
The tournament is being held in Mauritius.
