Michael Essien beats Gyan in Africa’s richest footballer listBlack Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan has been rated the sixth worthiest footballer on the continent according to Tuko.co.ke, a Kenyan news and entertainment website.

The 33-year-old is said to be worth about $23million being the money he acquired while playing for clubs such as Udinese, Rennes, Sunderland, Al Ain and Shanghai SIPG.

Gyan, who currently plies his trade in the Turkish league with Kayserispor is also said to have several business interests including the yet-to-be-operational Baby Jet airline.

Gyan, however, falls behind his Ghanaian compatriot and former Chelsea star, Michael Essien, who is said to be the fifth richest footballer on the continent and Ghana’s richest footballer.

Essien, 36, who has been capped 58 times for the Black Stars with nine goals is said to be worth about $35 million which he earned from his playing career.

The former, Bastia and Lyon ace who also featured for clubs such as Real Madrid and AC Milan is currently a free agent having been released by Indonesia side, Persib Bandung in 2018.

Cameroun legend, Samuel Eto’o sits on the summit of the list with a net worth estimated to be around $95million.

The 37-year-old who is considered as one of the most successful players on the continent for winning the continent’s most prestigious footballer award four times became the highest earning footballer while playing for Russian side, Anzhi Makhachkala raking an annual salary of $2.5m.

Eto’o who currently plays for Qatar SC has also played for Barcelona, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Antalyspor.

He is followed by Cote d’Ivoire legend, Didier Drogba whose net worth was not made available but was said to have raked in substantial amount with his wage of $150,000 a week at Chelsea where he spent eight seasons.

Later he went to Chinese side, Shanghai Shenhua where his weekly salary was $200,000, he later move to Galatasaray in Turkey before returning to Chelsea then to the MLS in USA where he is said to own shares in Phoenix Rising Football club

Yaya Toure who left Manchester City last season is said to be the third richest player on the continent with an estimated net worth of about $70million.

The 35-year old was said to have made his millions from the English club where he spent most of his playing career after his transfer from Barcelona.

Togolese international, Emmanuel Adebayor is regarded as the fourth richest Africa footballer with estimated net value of about $45million.

Speaking to Express, Essien added that the current situation at Chelsea could force the good players out sooner.

“Every player wants to play,” Essien told the Express.

“Chelsea isn’t an easy place to come and the competition is very fierce.

“At the end of the day, all the players work but it’s the manager who will pick who he wants to play.

“When you’re not playing you get frustrated and you want to look elsewhere.

“It’s up to them really but they have to keep working and then everyone gets their chance.”

Essien spent nine years with Chelsea between 2005 and 2014. He won the UEfA Champions League title with the Blues in 2012.

Reports has revealed that Mrs Essien, better known as Akusua Puni has packed out of the former Chelsea star’s home in London after carefully reviewing an interview Princess Shyngle granted with Deloris Frimpong Manso on the Delay Show some weeks back.

Akosua is angry with Essien because he had an affair with Princess Shyngle. This is leading to divorce as Mrs Puni is reportedly bent of ending her marriage with the former Ghana international, Michael Essien.

Michales Essien’s wife, Akosua Puni, owns a third-division Italian soccer club she bought for 237,000 euros ($254,000) at an auction in 2017.

In an interview, Gambia socialite cum actress Princess Shyngle, who resides in Accra, confirmed rumours that she was in a romantic relationship with the former Black Stars midfielder Micheal Essien.

She added that Mr Essien at that time was single when she they both hanged out at the Checkers Pub in Accra where the ‘couple’ shared kisses in public to confirm their relationship.

Essien’s marriage to Akosua, is about five years old and this divorce is the second to hit us this month after Black Star’s captain Asamoah Gyan, who recently filed a suit at a high court in Accra, seeking to leave his marriage of five years with Gify Gyan.

Adding that,”What happened was I got to know that he was married and that was a deal breaker for me. Obviously we were out in public which was a dumb move and I got contacted by some people that he was married and then I decided to Google him and I found out that he was really married,” she said.

Shyngle has in the past said that 99% of the guys she dated couldn’t satisfy her sexually and this raised concerns for host Delay to beep her if Essien was part of the 99% she stated in her Instagram post.

Currently, the Ghana Blackstar legend is married to a pretty lady called Akosua Puni.

Princess Shyngle also added in her interview that dating rapper Dblack wasn’t a best choice as the businessman seem to enjoy the company of other women and cheated several times during their relationship. Watch the full interview below.
