From Lagos to Nairobi: These 45 Startups Are Redefining Africa’s Tech FutureViva Technology has officially announced the 45 finalists for the 2025 AfricaTech Awards, its flagship initiative to amplify Africa’s most impactful and innovative startups. Now in its 4th edition, the awards continue to shine a global spotlight on African-led solutions addressing economic, environmental, and health challenges across the continent.

Out of 492 applications, 45 high-potential startups across GreenTech, HealthTech, and E-commerce & FinTech were selected. The winners will be crowned on June 12, 2025, at the VivaTech Global Awards Ceremony in Paris, with Senegalese football star Édouard Mendy returning as patron of the AfricaTech Awards.

For yet another year, Nigeria stood out as the most dynamic innovation hub, submitting 110 applications—a staggering 70% increase from 2024. Kenya followed with 51 entries, while Tunisia made a surprise entry into the top 3.

Notably, 50% of the HealthTech finalists were founded or co-founded by women, marking a significant milestone in female-led innovation across the continent.

The finalists were selected by VivaTech and Deloitte based on:

  • Tangible societal or environmental impact

  • Innovation quality

  • Pan-African and global scalability

  • Team experience and business viability

Returning as patron, Édouard Mendy, AFCON 2021 Champion and 2022 Best Goalkeeper, brings more than sports legacy—he’s an active investor in African tech ventures, championing entrepreneurship and digital transformation across the continent.

Only three category winners will be named, and one Grand Prize Winner will take the stage at VivaTech 2025 in Paris—joining the ranks of global innovators and changemakers.
