Bawumia, VCRAC Crabbe, Rawlings, Others attend K.B. Asante's burialThe funeral ceremony for late senior citizen and retired diplomat Kwaku Baprui Asante, popularly known as K.B. Asante, has been held in a solemn event at the forecourt of the State House.

Family members, friends, loved ones, politicians, people from academia and all walks of life trooped to the venue to pay their last respects to the late K.B. Asante.

Former president, Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings; National Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Prof. Edmund Dele; A member of the Council of State, Sam Okudzeto, VCRAC Crabbe among others were all present at the event.

Several tributes to the late professor were read, eulogizing him and his work as a diplomat.

We’ve been together for over sixty years and shared precious moments and challenges. Our last weekend together was special, and your passing was a shock. I miss you so much. Asante's burialPrior to the final funeral rites today, Saturday, a mass requiem was held yesterday, Friday at the All Saints Anglican church at Adabraka where he fellowshipped when he was alive.

Meanwhile, the K.B. Asante’s family is expected to hold a private burial for him.

K.B. Asante died on January 22, 2018 in Accra at age 93.

He also served as the Principal Secretary at African Affairs Secretariat from 1960 to 1966.

He became Ghana’s Ambassador to Switzerland and the United Nations Offices in Geneva, and the UN establishment in Vienna, and also the Ambassador to Australia from 1967-72.

He also served as the Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Economic Community from 1976-1978.

K.B. Asante retired from the Civil Service in 1978, to form the Social Democratic Front to contest the 1979 election where his party won three parliamentary seats in that election.

He was the Secretary for Trade and Tourism in the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) administration in 1982, and later Secretary for Education and Culture from 1986 to 1990.

K.B. Asante attended Achimota School where he later taught mathematics from 1945 to 1948, before proceeding to Durham University in Britain, where he obtained a BSc Mathematics in 1952.

He also became a member of the Institute of Statisticians in 1953, before again returning to Achimota College, where he continued teaching mathematics from 1953 to 1955.
